Kalabasa at Soda

Never in my young life have I seen soooo many “mutant” pumpkins in one place….

pumpkins

more pumpkins!

These orange thingamajigs welcomed us to the supermarket last Tuesday.  I know there are many more bigger, oranger pumpkins out there, but this was a real touristy albeit promdi moment for me.  I couldn’t resist taking pics.  How about carving my very first jack-o-lantern?  Tempting but no thanks. ;)

I wonder though, if pumpkins abound during Halloween seasons, do wedding flowers abound, too, during wedding season. Hmm. Just thinking out loud. :D

oOo

We went to the supermarket, H-E-B, which is like the SM of supermarkets here in Texas, purposely to hoard sodas.  H-E-B, like most supermarkets here in the US and like our very own supermarkets in the Philippines (SM, Robinisons, Rustan’s and Shopwise) has store-brand products.  Think SM bonus.  And for a few days, October 2 being the last day, they had a promo wherein they matched the 6 or 12-pack Coca-Cola products you buy (Regular Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, etc.) with the store-brand line of soda.  You have to use an in-store coupon and you can only buy one product at a time.

We got the chance to compare Diet Coke with the H-E-B brand of diet soda and I have to say, you can’t really taste the difference.  That coming from a loyal Diet Coke drinker!  This was last Thursday.  It kinda brought back memories of the Pepsi Challenge of the 80s.  But I dare say you can really taste the difference there.  ;)  I took that challenge and chose Coke over Pepsi.  Hee hee.  Anyway, going back to my story, hubby and I decided to take advantage of the promo and buy some more soda to fill the bottom of our pantry.  We bought Diet Coke and Dr. Pepper, for which hubby has developed a special liking.  Each 12-pack we bought was matched with a 12-pack Diet H-E-B Original Soda and a Dr. B.  We had to pay for the stuff separately though.  One product at a time, remember?  Hee hee!

Diet H-E-B Original Cola, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, Dr. B and some more diet colas

With over 50 cans of soda in our pantry, may I offer you a drink?  It’s on me.  ;)  Oh, I have a question before I go…would you drink an SM Bonus Diet Soda or maybe a Dr. SM?  *shrugs shoulders*  Just wondering. :P

Hi Ela! :D Aabangan ko ang entry mo about that. Hee hee! ;)

  3. that’s a whole lotta pumpkins indeed! mukang you were inspired by the pumpkins when you bought all that soda. hehehe! :-P

Hi Kris! Hee hee! ;)

Mommy Weng, Masaya mag carve ng pumpkins! As in nakakatuwa. :)

Re: sodas, my hubby also loves Dr Pepper. Di ko alam kung bakit kasi for me, lasang gamot sya! And I would definitely drink SM Bonus Soda if it costs less than regular soda and tastes the same. That’s the inner ilocano in me talking. Hahaha.

Naku, Jen!

Hahaha! ;)

waaah! malapit na talaga halloween at naglipana na ang pumpkins sa mga supermarkets. this year eh we’re doing something diff on pumpkins, no carving. my nephew saw this show na ribbons and buttons ang decor. kaya yon daw ang gagawin ng aming chikiting, hehehe!

Oh… those pumpkins are really something… I remember when we visited Mama and Papa in the US a few years back, it was also halloween time and we just went crazy when we saw how big those pumpkins are. Alam mo naman how big the kalabasas in Pinas can grow.

50 cans of softdrinks… hmmmm… how do you manage keeping your sexy figure?

Hahaha!

Sexy figure? :P Matagal na akong hindi sexy ano (and you know that!)! But I’m on a mission to get as close to my ideal weight/figure as I possibly can. Mwa-ha-ha-ha! That’s evil laughter for you! ;) Saka Diet Coke lang ang iniinom ko so calorie free…except when Abby and I share a drink then it’s gotta be lemonade or a juice drink. :D

I second the motion of Keith – para kaming mga “bagong salta” talaga when we also saw those humongous pumpkins at Stew Leonard’s in NY! Syempre pa, like you, super-kodakan moments ang nangyari afterwards! Hahaha! :D You know naman the Pinoy mentality of taking photos with chosen foreign “attractions” such as these – para bagang sinasabi: “We were there!” Mwahaha uli! :)

Hirap na, too much of it can make one really, you know, “gassy”… ;)

Pinks, siguro if I were in a tourist area showcasing pumpkins, I would have allowed Dondi to take a picture of me amidst the pumpkins. ;) Oh don’t worry, I only drink a can of diet soda a day and it’s not even every day. Masarap lang yung alam kong I can grab one from the pantry anytime. Hee hee! ;)

Im thinking about having J paint a face to it instead. Syempre, if all else fails meron namang gawa na hehe. :D

Hahaha, Abby!

Hahaha! Dapat maubos man lang namin yung branded…tutal technically, yun ang binayaran namin. Hehehe! :P
