Crazy Kitchen Gadget: Egg Separator
Some recipes call for separation of the egg whites from the egg yolk. How do you do it? I’ve been accustomed to cracking/breaking the eggshell into two halves and then transferring the egg yolk from one half of the egg shell to the other, all the while letting the egg whites drip into a bowl. I know some would just let the cegg rest on one hand while the egg whites dripped and all that is left in the palm of the hand is the egg yolk. Would this contraption make life easier for you?…

Some might actually like this Peter Petrie egg separator. Personally, I’ll just do it the old-fashioned way.

Retiring in Style and Comfort
Most of us already have an idea of how we want to retire. Hubby and I, for example, have world travel and a weekend/vacation home in our list of things to do and have. Most important of all, we would like to live a comfortable and happy life. These are the very same reasons why this early, we (that’s you and me), should already plan ahead and be smart with our earnings.
It is never too early to explore wealth building strategies and Diamond Bay Investment is one company that can help anyone achieve that dream life after retirement. They offer high yield Real Estate Trust Deed Investments, where a return of 12% or higher could be attained. Any person in his right mind would, of course, want an investment with higher yield but with low marginc risk, right? ;) And Diamond Bay covers all aspects of trust deed investing, including loan underwriting and processing, title and escrow.
If we play our cards right, we might even retire before the age 65. How about you? How do you see yourself in your retirement years?

What’s in the Lunch Bag?
My daughter, Abby, goes to school everyday. She goes to a montessori school which gives a lot of focus on independence. Hence, even the children who attend school for only half of the day, like Abby does, eat their lunch in school. The school strongly suggests having the kids bring food that can easily be eaten without too much assistance from the teachers.
Abby, in the last 8 months or so that she’s been going to school, has so far brought chicken nuggets, sandwiches, fish sticks, to name a few, for lunch. She prefers Asian nibblers though…dimsum. Her current favorite are these:

These are shrimp siomai (”shumai” is what’s written on the package) bought from the Asian store. I just steam them in my trusty bamboo steamer. How’s that for authenticity? Sometimes, we buy the ones with crab (imitation crab!) on top. Much as I want to vary her lunch meals, for two consecutive days (Monday and Tuesday), she had these. Both days, she came home with her lunch containers empty. 7 to 8 pcs. of these may not seem too much for an adult, but for a kid Abby’s size, that’s a lot! Plus, she always has fruit for dessert, too! When I packed her something else on Wednesday, dumplings, she was a little dismayed. Nevertheless, she ate most of it, not all of it. She reminded me so many times that day that we should buy some more siomai at the Asian market. Hee hee. :) That, we will do. At least, I won’t have to stress about what to make or pack for her lunch. Whew.

Training for the Gold
We got a call from hubby’s friend, Ron, an IT professional working for a computer company in Singapore, and he informed us that he will be coming here to the US next month. He will be spending a month-long training in their US office in addition to the Cisco training that he is also supposed to undergo.
We all see this as a good opportunity for Ron to gain an advantage over other professionals in the same field. As it is, his company already expects him to know everything, say, which voicemail system is better or more appropriate for them, CUE (Cisco Unity Express) or Cisco Unity? Try answering that! Ok, I’ll tell you. CUE will be excellent for smaller environments, while Cisco Unity is for larger environments. ;) But I only know this because I took a peek at GlobalKnowledge.Com.
Whatever field you are in, never discount the benefits of training. It might get you the gold…the same way in does for athletes. These days, certification can be your passport to a better future.

6 Quirky Things About Me
Gracie and Dang tagged me for this meme ages ago. Sorry, Gracie and Dang! I have to list 6 quirky things about me. Since this is mainly a food blog (with ad inserts!
), I’ll list quirky things about me related to food, eating and the like. Here it goes:
The rules: Link to the person that tagged you. Post the rules on your blog. Share six unimportant things/habits/quirks about your self. Tag 6 random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs. Let these random people know that they are tagged by leaving comments in their blog. Let your tagger know when your entry is up.
1. I love Japanese food and I was 9 years old the first time I ever tasted sashimi. It was love at first bite, I’m telling you!
2. I have a sweet tooth, too sweet! :) In a buffet, I will make room for dessert even if it means skipping the carving station.
3. When I was little a little girl, say 7 to 9 years old, I can have a meal with only rice & tomatoes (tomatoes with fish sauce), rice & raw egg or rice & Kikkoman sauce. Hee hee. *blushes*
4. I love green/unripe mangoes…the more sour the better. I like the ones that are still very white and not with a hint of yellow already. Of course, it has to be paired with bagoong (shrimp paste).
5. Most of my eating habit, I picked up from my Mom. Like the way I eat rice and corned beef. I mix it all up!
6. I love to bake more than cooking everyday meals. I think it’s because baking is a more “exact science” and with my architecture background, exact measurement is everything. Talk about being OC! Hahaha.
That’s it. I’m tagging Keith, Pinky, Nell, Abby, Feng and Tin.
