Steamed Buns

May 3rd, 2008

I mentioned just a few posts down that Abby prefers Asian food, specifically, dimsum,  for her school lunch.  .  Occupying top spot right now is siomai/shumai, which dislodged steamed buns, siopao, as we call it in the Philippines.

Roasted Barbecue Pork Steamed Buns

Since Abby started bringing siopao to school for lunch, 2 teachers have already asked me about them.  Hee hee.  They both asked me, on separate occassions, what these were called, what’s the filling and where do I buy them.  Of course, I happily share the info with them.

We normally buy 2 varieties of siopao whenever we go to the Asian supermarket.  We’ve so far tasted about 4 flavors and the roasted barbecue pork remains to be Abby’s favorite.  So we always make sure we have that in the cart.  It doesn’t taste bad at all.  I was able to eat a few when I was still eating pork.  ;)  One wouldn’t have guessed it was bought frozen from the store.  What we have yet to try though, are the ones with sweet fillings.  Maybe we ought to sometime.

Will steamed buns  reclaim the number one spot in Abby’s tummy tickler list for school lunch?    Only time will tell.  :D

The Practice

May 3rd, 2008

We’ve been living in the US for a year now and often, I would encounter words and terminologies that are alien to me.  Many times, I would find such words and terminologies on the internet.  Take for example the words “temporary attorney”.  What’s a temporary attorney?  Does that mean there’s a “permanent attorney”?  Pardon my ignorance but my knowledge of the law and terminologies related to it are limited to the ones I hear on tv shows, the movies, the news, and maybe a little from school.

Ms. Ilene Cohen is an example of a temporary attorney… temporary attorney New York to be more precise. Her company is PerDiemAttorneys.com, “per diem” being the operative word. They offer their services to busier law firms, to take care of less important court appearances, thereby allowing the busy law firms to focus on more pressing matters.

Ms. Cohen and her colleagues at PerDiemAttorneys.com are always reachable and available even on short notice and provide coverage in 52 New York State counties. They handle matters, that include but are not limited to, conferences, EBTs, motions, hearings, adjournments, bankruptcy, physicals(IME), appeals, and criminal matters.

Isn’t it nice to learn something new everyday? :)

PH #8: Time

May 3rd, 2008

This week’s photo hunt theme is “Time”.  Here’s my take on it…

This is breaded pork chop cooked in just the right TIME.

And this…cooked waaaaaay over TIME!  Tsk tsk!

I have another photo hunt HERE.  More photo hunters HERE.

In Search of a Used Car

May 3rd, 2008

A car is one big ticket item that is, in most places, a necessity and not a luxury.  However, not everyone are able to buy a brand new car, for one reason or another.  The next best option then is to look into used cars and for sure, one will find something that fits the budget.  This brings us to one  question , “where to search”?

In the UK, there is BuyYourCar, it guarantees that  offers the most affordable prices for used cars.  From the website, one can have an easy and exciting time searching.  I’m sure all car buyers already have an idea of the car they want to have…the color, model, and make.  At BuyYourCar, one only needs to supply these details and voila, the choices are presented to them.  The buyer can evey have an option to buy from a private seller or a dealership.

BuyYourCar also offers car loans and car insurance, making the car buying experience complete.  In addition to used cars, the company also offers new cars, car leasing and van leasing.  Another exciting section of the site is the “car review”.  That ought to give every buyer a chance to compare and weigh their car options well.

There are so many decisions to be made when buying a car.  But in the end, it will all be worth it.  There is definitely lesser stress, if we do the search in the right place.
