Green Rental Cars

May 13th, 2008

During our entire first year here in Austin, car rental was a huge part of our lives.  Now that we have been blessed with our own car, we still do rent a car when we have guests from out of town.  Hubby is still an avid car renter as he always goes on business trips.

It might interest you to know that there is one rental car company that is committed to going 100% green…Advantage Rent A Car.  They expect that by 2010, they are already green as green can be.  They have locations throughout the United States and around the world.  What’s even more exciting is that they have very special discounted rates for different types of vehicles, too: SUVs, Vans, etc.

It won’t be long before other car rental companies follow the lead of Advantage.  Going green is actually a great Advantage.  ;)

More Chic Aprons

May 13th, 2008

Ever since I discovered “haute aprons”, I can’t stop looking at them.  It’s just that I can’t get over how gorgeous they are…and pricey, too!  One would actually need an apron to protect THE apron.  Hahaha!

Meet Gigi.

It’s a black on black ribbon applique apron.  The price?  You better hold on to something for balance…$300!  You can have this utterly divine apron or a new hand bag.  I say hand bag.  Hahaha!

Now, meet Coco.

It’s a white on black ribbon applique apron.  It’s also priced at $300 but on sale right now at 50% off.  The look of luxe.  Hee hee.  I still say handbag. :D

And now I present to you, Sarah.

As is obvious from the photo, Sarah is from the bridal collection.  It ties around the waist, with a billowing silky sash and adorned with jewel toned bells or rhinestone balls.  It’s supposed to be the ideal bridal shower or bridesmaid gift.  It’s priced at $100 but on sale right now at 50% off.

All these are from Elizabeth Scokin Haute Hostess Aprons.

Stylish Blinds

May 13th, 2008

Since we renewed the lease to our townhouse, I have been obsessesing about the white blinds on our windows.  I’m just not so sure if I can tinker with them.  What I would really love to have are wood shades.  My cousin has wood blinds and I just love it.  Our next door neighbor has wood blinds, too!

Anyway, even if I can’t have them just yet, I still allowed myself to browse through the various selection of shades at JustBlinds.com.  I have to say, it was a lot of fun window shopping for the windows.  Hee hee!  JustBlinds has real wood blinds, faux wood blinds, cellular shades, aluminum blinds, pleated shades, and many more.  They even custom make shades for a day or they’re free!

If only there was a way to ask our landlord to replace our white blinds.  Hee hee.

TMA #3: Currently Reading

May 13th, 2008

What are you reading?

For my kitchen adventures, I’m currently reading “How to Boil Water” from the Food Network Kitchens…not that I don’t know how to boil water.  I highly recommend this book to those who have no kitchen experience AT ALL and even to those who think they have.  Hee hee.  It contains a lot of helpful tips and information and of course, recipes.  This book makes for a good gift for a bridal shower or to anyone who wants to know his/her way around the kitchen better.

That’s my answer. :)

Chic Aprons

May 13th, 2008

Do you use an apron?  I rarely do.  The only times I use an apron is when we’re expecting guests and I’m pressed for time, so much so that I have to change into something decent already.  Only then will I protect my clothes from possible oil and sauce  splatters and who knows what else.  The aprons I have, by the way, are really cheap ones that I bought from SM, the national department store of the Philippines.  Hahaha!  I don’t know what possessed me to look for aprons on line but I did and I was really surprised to find really nice ones.  They’re so nice they could actually already be mistaken for an actual dress.

Haute “Glam It Up” Hostess Aprons by Elizabeth Scokin Productions

See what I mean?  I never looked this good when entertaining guests!  Have you ever?  Looked this good, I mean?  Hahaha!  I really do like these aprons.  And this next one, too….

This is called “Kiki” also from the Glam It Up collection of Elizabeth Scokin Productions.  It has a price tag of, hold your breath, $200.  Ooooooh!  But it’s on sale now for $100.  Any takers?

By the way, this is not a paid post.  Just so we’re clear.  Hahaha! :P

Timely Investment

May 13th, 2008

My Mom’s first big investment was a Gucci wristwatch.  I remember her telling me that she really saved up for it.  But I can’t say that my mom is an avid buyer of luxury watches.  She is merely an admirer.  Hahaha.  I know some people though who can’t leave the house sans an expensive watch.  I can see myself investing in one really nice time piece…but on several?  Hmmm.  It’s too early to tell.  Hahaha! ;)
