Strawberries and Cream

Because it’s just about 11 days before Wimbledon, here’s a Wimbledon trivia for you.  Did you know that the traditional snack for spectators at Wimbledon is strawberries and cream?  How chic is that?!  According to Wiki, approximately 28,123 kilograms (62,000 pounds) of strawberries and 7,000 litres (1,540 gallons) of cream are sold each year during the Championships.  That’s a lot of strawberries if you ask me!

Hubby loves sports and Wimbledon tournament tickets would be a wonderful Father’s Day present for him.  Well, maybe not this Father’s Day.  Hee hee.  The only pro sport we ever saw live was a baseball game between the Anaheim Angels and the Baltimore Orioles when we were in California in 2003.  It would be fun to watch tennis live, specifically, the Wimbledon.

Why?  Because it’s only the most prestigious grand slam tournament ever!  :)  Seriously, one reason would be we haven’t been to the UK yet.  Second, I love how the Wimbledon is cloaked in prestige.  There’s just something so royal-ish about the tournament.  Case in point, it’s the only tournament where tennis players observe a strict dress code of almost entirely white tennis outfits.  The Wimbledon is also the only grand slam tournament that is played on grass courts.

I’ll be cheering for Roger Federer who has so far won 5 consecutive Men’s Singles Titles since 2003 and is tied with Bjorn Borg in the record books.  Winning a 6th consecutive title will allow him to break free from Borg.

I guess for now, we’ll just have to watch the matches on tv.  But someday, we’ll be watching the matches from good seats at Center Court.  Yes, with our strawberries and cream, too. :)
