Reminiscing the First Day of School

My daughter goes back to school on Monday, earlier than most schools. I can still vividly recall my first day of school. I didn’t cry, not even a tiny squeak. My Mom and Dad prepared me well for that first day. And as I sat on my little chair, I was silently wondering why the other kids were crying their lungs out! I didn’t understand what the big deal was. I remember liking my lunch box which had a matching thermos. It was orange and had cute drawings of a monkey on a tree. Hee hee.

Going back to school always excited me because it always meant shopping for new things. My Mom and Dad always made sure my brother and I had new shoes, school uniforms and school supplies. They would also set aside one night to cover our books and notebooks with plastic and label each one of them. My grandmother, on the other hand, would sew our initials to our socks and undergarments so they wouldn’t get mixed up! Those days, the cool labeling gadgets we have now weren’t available yet. :) I would have loved having Color labels on my things! :)

Now, it is my turn to put labels on my daughter’s things. And I have a lot of fun doing it. I’ve got two Dymo label makers.  I use these for my daughter’s lunch containers and her change of clothes for school.

Can you still recall you first day of school? I bet it was interesting!
