Pre-K Bento Lunch #4: Fried Rice and Crab Siomai

For the first time, I packed rice in Abby’s bento box. As I’ve said before, I’m trying to wean her from store bought siomai/shumai. I’ll soon be making them myself instead. I thought it was safe to pack rice because Abby has a classmate who is half-Asian and who eats rice for lunch, too! I took that bit of info as my green light.
Going back to the fried rice. I prepared it the night before as school mornings tend to be hectic. What’s in the rice? Left over baked chicken thighs, canned peas and corn, carrot slices, a little soy sauce and a dash of salt. And before refrigerating the rice, I asked Abby to taste it so I can see how she likes it. She gave me the thumbs up sign and said, “Ummm, yumm, Mommy!” I told her it will be her lunch for the next day. I was pleased and hopeful.
I so looked forward to pick-up time to see how lunch went. The verdict? The siomai, as always, was devoured. I couldn’t say the same for the rice. I think Abby’s turning American on me. Not! :D I’ll just have to keep trying. *sigh* I’ve still got a lot of tricks in my bag. ;)

Erynne’s doesn’t always look for rice either. There are days she can eat ulam without it… I don’t get it :D.

No worries, if she devoured the siomai, there’s still hope :)
