Hi Joan! I'm sorry to hear you encountered some problems with the frosting/s. I think you can try whipping the frosting longer and adding more liquid (milk/water) about a tablespoon at a time. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi,

Your buttercream looks so smooth! I tried making both the Hershey's frosting and Wilton's buttercream frosting but they came out grainy when eaten. You literally can feel the powdered sugar in the frosting. Please help!

Thanks!

I had the same problem as Dee. I just made the cake for my fiance's b.day and the cake came out spongy. The problem wasn't the spongy texture though, the recipe calls for too much baking soda and salt. I also made the Perfectly Chocolate icing and it came out too bitter following the directions, so I added more milk and more hot water. Then the icing got too watery, so I added more powdered sugar and 1/4 cup butter, and it was too sweet. I had no idea how to save it so I put it in the freezer and made whipped cream for the cake filler and cream cheese frosting for the topping. Even with the extras, the cake was too bitter and salty. We both hated the taste and threw away the entire thing after a couple of bites. I was very saddened by this event because this recipe used to be my favorite chocolate cake recipe.

I looked on the internet and just saw that there are two Hershey's cocoas. One is the original black container with silver lettering that I normally use, and the other is a new looking container with a green label that says "Natural Unsweetened, non-alkalized cocoa". Is there a difference between the type of cocoa powder in the two containers?
