The first day of the year, turned out to be crabby. As in crabby in dungeness proportions! And I couldn’t be happier. Hee hee.
We had Steamed Dungeness Crabs for dinner on January 1st, right in our dining room! These beauties would have cost us an arm and a leg in so-called seafood restaurants. We got these at the Asian supermarket and to think we’ve been ignoring frozen crabs for the past two years thinking they were no good! That night we bought these, they just seem to sing to us. Ooh la la! As a child up until I was in college, I was used to having family seafood Sundays when we feasted on fresh mussels, crabs and shrimps. I haven’t had a crabby day this wonderful since we moved to the US!
On the first day of the year, we also had some Callos. Technically, these were not leftovers because I set this aside from the huge amount I cooked for our New Year’s Eve potluck. I just feel it’s not right to eat leftovers on very special occasions, least of all Christmas and New Year. :D But that’s just me!
For dessert, we had Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream, the real deal and not the Blue Bell flavor!
This was really good and really creamy homemade ice cream goodness! My daughter and I got to play with our new kitchen toy. ;) I promise to tell you more about it on my next blog entry.
