Fresh As a Daisy
It’s “Teacher Appreciation Week” at my daughter’s school. Everyday from Monday to Friday, there are surprises in store for the teachers. Yesterday was “Bring (Her) a Flower Day”. My daughter’s teacher loves daisies, her favorite flowers. Instead of just doing the most sensible thing, which was to go to the nearest supermarket and buy her flowers, I decided to make her edible daisies instead and used them to decorate a chocolate cake, which, I learned, she likes. :)

I baked the Hershey’s “Perfectly Chocolate” Chocolate Cake on Monday night. I also made the flowers and leaves after midnight of Tuesday. What can I say, I like working in an ungodly hour, when there are no callers offering life insurance quotes . Hee hee. :D

The filling and frosting is Hershey’s Perfectly Chocolate Chocolate Frosting. There are loads of semi-sweet and white chocolate chips in the filling. I decorated the bottom of the cake with chocolate covered raisins. This is the first time, I believe, that I didn’t smooth out the frosting on the cake, opting to have a swirly kind of thing going. I do like how it turned out. ;)

The daisies and leaves are all made of fondant. I had a lot of fun making them. It’s been a while since I made flowers out of fondant. :)
Cheers to everyone in the teaching profession…the good ones, of course! :)
