Anthony Bourdain in the Flesh

This is old news to my Facebook friends.  I’m still posting this entry just the same…for posterity, for my handful of readers who are not my friends on Facebook, and for me. :)

Anthony Bourdain has a new book out, Medium Raw.  A New York-based friend of mine attended a Medium Raw book reading/signing event at a Barnes and Noble outlet in NYC, posted photos from the event on Facebook and unknowingly started an Anthony Bourdain book signing craze. I have to admit, I was one of those bitten by the very infectious AB bug.  Hee hee.  It didn’t take me very long to find out that Anthony Bourdain was coming to an independent bookstore in Austin, Book People, for a book signing!  Immediately, I secured myself a ticket to meeting  AB in the flesh via a copy of Medium Raw bought at full price from Book People. Finally, on June 29th, I got to see Anthony Bourdain! ;)

AB and his bottle of Shiner :)

The very intimate and laid-back Q&A with AB already started when my party arrived at Book People.  It was so relaxed and laid back that AB was even gulping down Shiner in between questions and answers!  It was quite a sight, I tell you!

I was star-struck to say the least.  I couldn’t even bring myself to raise my hand and ask a question. Questions were very random.  People from the audience asked about AB’s travels, the book, his experiences as a chef, his opinion on Food Network, even his appearance on Yo Gabba Gabba!

Hubby and me with AB

AB was quite the funny man and we were all entertained!  Never mind if his sentences were very generously peppered with the “F word”. We were laughing too much at one point that some looked ready to go on a Saniflo toilet anytime!

The Q&A started at 7pm and lasted for an hour.  It was immediately followed by the book-signing and everyone waited patiently for their turn.  I waited close to an hour-and-a-half to get my book signed.  It was well worth the wait.  After all, it’s not very often that I get to hobnob with a celebrity. Hee hee.

It was a wonderful evening.  And I shall look forward to more encounters with celebrities. *cross fingers*

Cheers, y’all!
