My family hosted an intimate potluck dinner for friends last Thanksgiving. It was potluck, yes, yet I still made 4 dishes and 4 desserts. Being the host, I thought it was only proper that I at least prepared more than my guests did. So while a good number of people were leafing through pages of after-Thanksgiving sales circulars (looking for Ordinateurs de bureau and what nots), I was busy slaving it out in the kitchen. I know I didn’t have to but I really wanted to. :) For my warm dishes, I made Walnut Shrimp, Macaroni & Brie, Baked Salmon and Spinach-stuffed Mushrooms. For dessert, I made Leche Flan, Sweet Potato Cupcakes (unfrosted), Blondies and Canonigo. I took food picture that night, including those of the gorgeously delicious food our friends brought to the table. Unfortunately, except for the photos on this post, the rest are still in the hard drive of my home computer.
I was only able to upload the photos of the canonigo…
It was in September 2009 when I made my first canonigo. I didn’t even realize it’s been that long! Anyway I’d like to think that the second one was a tad better than the first, appearance-wise. I used the same recipe. Instead of a regular round cake pan, however, I used an angel food cake pan.
The meringue came out nicely thick and fluffy, just as I wanted. This was served with a custard sauce. You can find the recipe HERE.
Christmas is just around the corner! Ours is going to be really merry and blessed. I just know it!
