La.Pi.S. #5: Sour
Lasang Pinoy Sundays is actually on week #7 already but that won’t stop me from posting my entry for the weeks I missed when I went on vacation - week #5 (sour) and week #6 (soft). I’ll post separate entries for each.
Here’s my take on sour…

…freshly squeezed lemonadate with a strawberry twist. I purposely ordered this drink for La.Pi.S. when we had lunch at Mighty Fine last week. I’ll post an entry about Mighty Fine in the coming days.
One down, two more La.Pi.S. entries to go. ![]()

La.Pi.S. #4: Summer Drinks
I didn’t want to do any more recycling of photos for this week’s Lasang Pinoy. I originally planned on making a banana smoothie because I have bananas in the freezer waiting so desperately to be used. However, it’s the July 4th (long) weekend here in the US. That meant our restless and certified Pinoy feet were out of the house for most of the time throughout the three-day weekend. So no banana smoothies. Hee hee.
I decided to just take a pic of my drink for lunch earlier today, which, I dare say, is one of the more popular drinks anywhere…Iced Tea…

Coming from the Philippines, iced tea for me means the overly sweet “Nestea”. But after a year of living in the US, my tastebuds have already gotten accustomed to unsweetened iced tea. I sweeten it, of course! Hee hee. :) Don’t you think iced tea is so versatile? It’s a beverage one can drink anytime: lunch, dinner, midmorning & midafternoon snacks, picnic at the park, outing at the beach, watching dvds at home while relaxing in one’s home theater furniture, etcetera, etcetera. :)
Between iced tea and fresh fruit juices, my vote will always go to fresh fruit juices. We’re lucky that watermelons, honeydews and cantaloupes are quite abundant here. And they’re sweet, too! Too bad I can’t say the same about the mangoes. I miss my Philippine mangoes!
With that, I raise my glass of iced tea. Cheers!

WW #18: SBC’s Chocolate Coffee Crunch

We were at Borders last Sunday and decided to make use of a Seattle’s Best Coffee Coupon. For the purchase of a 16 or 20 oz blended drink, we get another drink of equal or lesser value for free. ;) Hubby and I both had one of their newest blended drinks, Chocolate Coffee Crunch. Yes, it is possible to get your chocolate, coffee, and summer cooler fix in one blended drink. My only problem is the “crunch” in this blended drink. They are the black dot-like thingies you see in the JavaKula cup. They kinda get stuck between the teeth. Not pretty, I tell you. Just watch out for that “minor detail” when you decide to order this drink.
Abby enjoyed a blended drink, too, my other WW entry.

WS #16: Free Jetty Punch Smoothie
Did you know that last Saturday, 21 June, officially the first day of Summer, was National Flip Flop Day. :D We didn’t. It’s a Tropical Smoothie Cafe imposed holiday, I think. Coming from my daughter’s dance recital, we decided to get some rest at home before we did anymore weekend activities. We noticed a few people at the main street corner going into our subdivision carrying signages. I couldn’t make out what they said exactly except for a few random words…free…smoothie…flip flops. Hubby got it though, thank goodness! Apparently, the signs say that everyone wearing flipflops will get a free smoothie at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Woohoo!
The Cafe is just a very short walk away from our house. We, of course, went home first to change into flip flops. Hee hee. Yes, all three of us. Instead of resting at home, we decided to rest at the Cafe instead. :D When we got to Tropical Smoothie, we were each handed a coupon for a, get this, 24 oz. Jetty Punch Smoothie. It’s not just a regular-sized smoothie…it was a large one at that! A Jetty Punch smoothie is a low fat strawberry-banana smoothie. We love strawberries. We love bananas. We love smoothies. We love freebies! Hee hee. How lucky can anyone get?!

June 21st, National Flip Flop Day at Tropical Smoothie Cafe

Three cheers for free smoothies! Hee hee!
Anyone is welcome to claim a free smoothie without any obligation to buy anything else. But because we are much too shy to be able to pull an act like that, hubby and I decided to split a salad while Abby had a ham and cheese sandwich. Coming from the recital, Abby was hungry. So it was a good decision on our part to take something.

Chicken Caesar Salad
We missed last year’s National Flip Flop Day. We’re glad that this year, we didn’t. I’ll make sure to add this to my list of important holidays. Hee hee.
I did mention it was also my daughter’s dance recital last saturday. I posted a few photos HERE, my other Weekend Snapshot entry. Visit other WS participants here.
Have a wonderful week! ![]()

Melon Madness
Cantaloupes, or melons as we call them in the Philippines, were on sale at my favorite supermarket last Monday. I bought 3 pieces. I totally forgot that hubby was out of town so between Abby and me, 3 pieces of melon is A LOT. :D It was only yesterday that I got to open and cut them all up for chilling in the fridge. They are soooo sweet. I can’t help but pop a few pieces in my mouth every now and then while I was cutting them to bite-sized pieces. Abby loved them, too!
As soon as they were cooled, I made Abby a no-brainer Melon and Cream.

She just likes whipped cream so much!
Coming from her school today, Abby wanted me to buy her smoothie at the Tropical Smoothie Cafe, which is just around the corner from where we live. Ever the scrooge that I am, I told her I’ll just maker her a Melon Smoothie at home. ;) She asked if she could help me and I agreed.
As soon as we entered the kitchen, I went to work and made Abby her smoothie. I got the blender out, threw in half a cup of crushed iced, half a cup of (Abby’s) soy milk, about 5 bite-sized pieces of melon (1inch x 1 inch) a little bit of sugar. I poured Abby’s in her rocket ship cup with starw, and mine…in a wine glass.

When we have ice cream, we add a scoop of ice cream for a more sinful smoothie. ;) But I’ll be holding off on the ice cream for now…at least for myself. I just froze some bananas earlier. We’ll probably make a banana smoothie later or tomorrow. Hee hee. The things we drink in summer. ![]()

McDonald’s Premium Coffee
Hubby and I are big coffee fans, but we usually just brew our own coffee at home. Buying signature coffee on a regular basis can easily bore a hole in one’s pockets, so buying from either Starbucks or Seattle’s Best Coffee (SBC) has become a rarity…a real treat when we do. Sometimes though, we have to have a quick caffeine fix, specially on a roadtrip. And a couple of times, we found ourselves going to the McDonald’s drive thru for this…

Well, it’s McDoanld’s Coffee so you can’t really expect much…but it’s cheap so… :P Hahaha! Hubby prefers the Regular blend, and I, Hazelnut. They grow on you. :D We never liked their Vanilla though, which we thought always tasted funny. We were able to snag some SBC coupons at Borders yesterday. I see real coffee in for me in the near future. In the next couple of days perhaps?
